Wanchese Fish Company, a division of Cooke Seafood USA, is launching a new trawler to target Argentine red shrimp.
Built by the Astilleros Armon shipyard in Spain for CAD 15 million (USD 12 million, EUR 10.6 million), the F/V Destiny, with a length of over 42 meters, will operate in southern Argentine waters this season.
The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art fishing and processing technology, including Ibercisa electric trawl winches for the outrigger system, Cooke Seafood said in a press release.
“Destiny and her crew will deliver the highest quality products available in the Argentine fishery and will provide our customers with products meeting the strictest specifications,” Cooke Seafood USA CEO Ross Butler said. “We are very excited that the Destiny will be fully commissioned and ready to participate in the 2022 season.”
Argentine red shrimp have rapidly gained in popularity over the past decade due to their unique taste and appearance.
“Vibrant in color and sweet in taste, world-renowned Argentine red shrimp is wild-caught and comes to Wanchese customers as frozen-at-sea whole shrimp, shell-on tails, or peeled and deveined and ready to be cooked,” Cooke said.
