Triad Fisheries has became the first Alaska seafood supplier to earn Food and Agriculture Organization-based Responsible Fisheries Management Certification, the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute announced in its newsletter on Wednesday.
The Bothell, Wash.-based company received the chain-of-custody standard after a detailed audit report was reviewed by Global Trust Certification.
The certificate is valid for three years and will be validated annually via a surveillance audit. Triad Fisheries — which markets king and coho salmon (under the Bruce Gore brand), halibut, sablefish, lingcod and spot prawns — is now eligible to use the Alaska Seafood Certified Responsible Fisheries seal.
Salmon was Alaska’s first major commercial fishery to be awarded the independent, third-party Responsible Fisheries Management Certification in March 2011. The certification is based on the FAO’s Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries. Alaska’s halibut, sablefish, pollock and snow and king crab fisheries are also certified against the program.
