Tenyu Foods Co., a Taiwanese company specializing in fish cake products, is working to capitalize on the Taiwanese-style shabu and hotpot trend to further its expansion into the U.S. market.
Tenyu has been producing products for oden, hotpot, and Taiwanese-style shabu restaurants for over 30 years, and Tenyu Foods Account Manager Chi Wang told SeafoodSource the company's products have grown popular in Asia.
Wang told SeafoodSource at Seafood Expo North America (SENA), which ran from 10 to 12 March in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A., the company has recently started expanding into North America through a partnership with Winger Trading, a restaurant supply company based in Santa Clara, California.
“To be honest, it’s a niche market in North America, and we’re looking to expand,” Wang said. “We feel like the product, as well as shabu itself, is getting more and more popular.”
Tenyu Foods is currently shipping a variety of different fish cake products to areas of the U.S., with some of its biggest customers on the West Coast – especially in Los Angeles, California – but Wang said it feels as though the country's other coast offers a lot of opportunities, too.
“We feel like the [U.S.] East Coast has potential; people here are accepting a wide variety of different foods,” Wang said.
The company was attending SENA in part to connect with more East Coast buyers, Wang said.
