- Seafarms Group Limited appointed Peter Fraser as commercial director of Project Sea Dragon, a shrimp-farming development in Australia that has faced financial difficulties.
Fraser, previously Project Sea Dragon's commercial director and Seafarms' international business advisor since 2015, takes over from former CEO Rod Dyer, who will remain a non-executive director at Seafarms, the company said in a release. Fraser, who will make a base salary of AUD 850,000 (USD 554,000, EUR 512,000) annually was previously managing director of Ocean and Earth Seafoods was commercial director for the National Prawn Company of Saudi Arabia (NAQUA) from 2005 to 2011.
“Despite the challenges encountered by Seafarms and its Project Sea Dragon, we remain focused and fully committed to the future of the business," Seafarms Group CEO Ian Trahar said in a press release. “Today’s appointment of leading international aquaculture executive Peter Fraser to CEO marks a new phase in the realization of Seafarms’ Project Sea Dragon."
On 14 March, Seafarms announced it had appealed a federal court judgment finding its contractor, Canstruct, is owed AUD 13.9 million (USD 9.1 million, EUR 8.4 million). On 20 March, it won a stay in proceedings of the Canstructu lawsuit until at least 18 April 2024.
- Siggi Olason, formerly the managing director of seafood equipment company Marel, has been appointed as CEO of Optimar, a fish-processing firm based in Valderøya, Norway.
According to his LinkedIn, Olason worked at Marel as its managing director and executive vice president of fish from May 2014 to March 2020, then CEO of Green Fuel from March 2021 to February 2024. He began at Optimar in February 2024.
- Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP) CEO Craig Morris announced he has joined the board of directors for the Global Seafood Alliance.
According to Morris’ LinkedIn, he has been with the GAPP for more than five years. Previously, Morris was vice president of international marketing at the National Pork Board.
