This year’s Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America (SENA) event will feature a keynote address from Kent Greenfield, Professor of Law and Dean’s Research Scholar at Boston College Law School, on the topic of “Success, Failure and Corporate Social Responsibility” within the modern seafood industry.
Greenfield will address the importance of acknowledging emerging corporate social responsibilities, from those related to the environment and consumer safety and health, to human and worker rights.
“In a time of change, every company should have a strategy in place for corporate social responsibility,” explained Liz Plizga, Group Vice President for Diversified Communications, producer of the expo. “Greenfield’s session will educate attendees that every business must face the reality that they are connected with a wide range of stakeholders and situations that expose them to unexpected and unfamiliar challenges.”
A leading legal expert in the field of corporate accountability and an analyst of the roles that corporations play in society, Greenfield has spent time lecturing at more than 100 institutions in 37 states and 10 countries. He has been a visiting professor at Brown University and the University of Sydney, and is the former chair of the Business Associations Section of the American Association of Law Schools. The author of two books and several scholarly articles, Greenfield is currently in the process of penning a new book called Corporations Are People Too.
Playing an instrumental part in framing the theory of the cases brought against Unocal Corporation for alleged human rights violations committed by the company in Burma, and against Hershey Corporation for the alleged use of child labor in West Africa, Greenfield has ample experience acting as a consultant for litigators on issues involving corporate accountability.
The accountability expert is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School and Brown University; he once clerked for Justice David H. Souter of the United States Supreme Court and practiced at Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C.
Greenfield’s keynote address will be held on 6 March at 11:00 a.m. EST, and will be open to all interested SENA attendees. The address is part of a conference program boasting more than 20 additional educational sessions captained by seafood industry experts.
