Spring is a key time for those looking to purchase wild-caught seafood from Alaska, especially the state’s renowned salmon, according to OBI Seafoods CEO Mark Palmer.

Seattle, Washington, U.S.A-based OBI Seafoods, which was formed in May 2020 by the merger of Icicle Seafoods’ Alaska salmon and Gulf of Alaska groundfish operations, said it will focus its efforts at the upcoming Seafood Expo North America, taking place 13 to 15 March in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A., on touting its Alaska salmon products.

“We have had a high level of interest from our global customers to see us in person at the show to discuss 2022 production,” Palmer said in a press release. “It’s a very efficient way to meet a number of customers in a short amount of time at a critical time for our business. With forecasts for the Alaska salmon season out, the show is well timed for those customers looking to secure the volumes they need for the coming year. It also helps us with our operational planning for summer, which is already in full swing.”

OBI Seafoods said it plans “a full-scale and fully staffed exhibit at Seafood Expo North America,” with its global sales team meeting customers at booth #1205.

“In addition to introducing the company to new customers, interest from current customers and the spring timing of the show are driving the company’s decision to attend,” it said. “This is the first opportunity for the company to present its expanded capabilities to the world since the merger.”

Palmer said the COVID-19 mitigation protocols the show has in place will offer a safe environment to conduct business.

“We know what works and the precautions taken by the show should allow everyone to have a successful show and get back to business,” he said. “We are really looking forward to seeing our customers after such a long time.”

OBI Seafoods partner Ocean Beauty Seafoods has two products – its Echo Falls Wild Alaska Hot Smoked Sablefish and its Echo Falls Wild Alaska Sockeye Salmon Tapas Slices that have been named finalists for the 2022 Seafood Excellence Awards Best New Retail Product contest.

OBI Seafoods company operates 10 processing plants throughout Alaska and is a leading producer of fresh, frozen, and canned Alaska seafood. The OBI Seafoods’ ownership includes a group of seafood veterans, Cooke Seafood, and the Bristol Bay Economic Development Corporation – a community development quota group that supports economic development in villages in Western Alaska.
