Mowi sells French processing plant to Sofipêche

Mowi ASA has sold its Dunkirk operation – previously known as Appéti’Marine – to Sofipêche.

Bergen, Norway-headquartered Atlantic salmon group Mowi ASA has sold its Dunkirk operation – previously known as Appéti’Marine – to Sofipêche, a French fishery and processing company based in nearby Boulogne-sur-Mer.

In a press release, Mowi stated that it will continue to supply salmon to the plant, which specializes in the production of frozen salmon and seafood specialties. It also said that following the sale, it will focus its production activities in France on the fresh and smoked market segments via its specialized units Mowi Boulogne (fresh) and Mowi Bretagne (smoked).

Mowi achieved operational earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of approximately EUR 137 million (USD 160.9 million) in its initial Q2 2021 results, which was EUR 38 million (USD 44.6 million) more than in the corresponding period of last year but significantly less than the record EUR 211 million (USD 247.8 million) posted for Q2 2019.

Overall, the group harvested 108,000 metric tons (MT) of gutted weight equivalent (GWE) salmon in the three-month period, which was 1,000 MT lower than its previous forecast. However, this total was higher than the second-quarter 2020 harvest of 104,000 MT, and Q2 2019’s 98,500 MT.

Its Norwegian operations harvested 56,000 MT, Scotland 19,000 MT, Canada 13,500 MT, Chile 15,000 MT, Ireland 2,000 MT, and the Faroes 2,500 MT.

The Q2 2021 operational EBIT in Mowi’s consumer products segment was EUR 16 million (USD 18.8 million), a drop of EUR 7 million (USD 8.2 million) on Q2 2020, while the feed division’s operational EBIT was down 50 percent to EUR 3 million (USD 3.5 million).

Mowi will publish its complete Q2 2021 report later this month.
