Luke’s Lobster, Get Maine Lobster, and several other retailers and restaurants are offering specials throughout the week in recognition of National Lobster Day on 25 September and Maine Lobster Week.

“This is the third year of Maine Lobster Week and we have been getting more restaurants each year,” Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative (MLMC) Executive Director Marianne LaCroix told SeafoodSource. “It gives an opportunity for restaurants to showcase innovative new dishes or a favorite lobster dish and gives the opportunity for those in Maine to enjoy lobster at the height of the season.”

Luke's Lobster is offering a special half-pound lobster roll in its restaurants on 25 September and touting 25 percent off its National Lobster Day collection in its online shop between 24 and 30 September.

Get Maine Lobster is offering up to USD 100 (EUR 94) off and free overnight shipping from Portland, Maine, U.S.A., along with specials on Maine lobster tails, live Maine lobsters, Maine lobster rolls, and more. Also online, Hancock Gourmet is offering 20 percent off with the code LW2023 during Maine Lobster Week and Harbor Fish Market is offering six whole-cooked Maine Lobsters for USD 50 (EUR 47) plus shipping.

MLMC provides an entire list of Maine Lobster suppliers who deliver nationwide at LobsterfromMaine.com.

”We're delighted to commemorate National Lobster Day by honoring the people and communities behind this beloved seafood and its positive contributions to Maine,” LaCroix said in a release. “We invite lobster lovers to celebrate with us by enjoying locally sourced, sustainably harvested Maine Lobster – which directly supports the hard-working individuals and families who make this fishery so special."

For more than 150 years, lobster fishing has been a vital part of Maine's cultural heritage, symbolizing the state's coastal identity and “providing a way of life for generations of families who sustain their coastal communities and protect the resource,” MLMC said.

While MLMC will not have this year’s Maine lobster pricing and landings until the end of this year, last season’s commercial landings dropped 37 percent, but that was in comparison to record landings in 2021.

The total value of all of Maines commercial landings reached USD 574 million (EUR 539 million) in 2022, compared to the all-time high of USD 890 million (EUR 834 million) earned in 2021. Despite the drop, the Maine Department of Marine Resources (DMR) said the value is in line with historical norms, as the average value of all fisheries for the period spanning 2011 to 2020 is USD 586 million (EUR 549 million).
