GlobalG.A.P. Managing Director Kristian Moeller – who has worked with the organization for 20 years – announced his resignation from the farm assurance program on 12 May, effective 31 May.
Moeller has been with the program for the entire run of its aquaculture standard, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2024. In his announcement, Moeller said he will be joining the EHI Retail Institute, effective 1 June, 2023.
“It has been an honor to initiate and lead the development and growth of GlobalG.A.P.,” Moeller said. “I think it is safe to say that we have changed the lives of more than 200,000 farmers and their families, and more than two million farm workers, not to forget the many million consumers that enjoy access to safer food.”
Under Moeller’s leadership, GlobalG.A.P. has continued to evolve its aquaculture standard, including the sixth version of its aquaculture certification standard in 2022. The newest version of the certification includes additional standards for animal and worker welfare, according to a presentation by Moeller and GlobalG.A.P. Aquaculture Expert Remko Oosterveld at the recent Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, Spain.
GlobalG.A.P. said the organization’s managing directors for FoodPLUS, Elmé Coetzer-Boersma and Markus Phillip, who were both appointed in 2021, will continue in those roles. FoodPLUS is a limited liability company in Cologne, Germany, which manages the company’s activities and holds the international copyrights for GlobalG.A.P. and the GGN consumer label for its certified farms.
“Over the 10-plus years that I have been serving on the GlobalG.A.P. Advisory Board, I have greatly appreciated Kristian's way of closely involving the board in the decision-making process and fostering the spirit of a stakeholder-driven organization,” GlobalG.A.P. Advisory Board Chair Guy Callebaut said in a statement. “On behalf of all the GlobalG.A.P. Advisory Board members, I wish him the same success for the future as he has achieved with GlobalG.A.P.”
