- On 17 August, the Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) announced it has promoted Steven Hart to the position of senior vice president of market development. Hart joined GSA in 2015 and was previously the executive director of the Soy Aquaculture Alliance. His academic backrgound is in aquaculture nutrition, a subject in which he holds a Ph.D.
“The global seafood industry is experiencing unique and challenging times right now,” Hart said. “I look forward to working with all of GSA’s stakeholders to face these challenges head-on and develop solutions that will allow us to continue providing assurances to marketplaces around the world that their seafood is being produced responsibly. We provide those assurances through the BAP and BSP certification programs and the Seafood Processing Standard, as well as through our partnership with Responsible Fisheries Management, which GSA signed a memorandum of understanding with in March.”
GSA also announced it promoted Mike Kocsis to serve as the organization’s chief strategy officer. Kocsis joined GSA in 2022 as its chief systems officer and brings more than 20 years of industry experience. He has worked at major seafood companies such as High Liner Foods, King & Prince Seafood, and Gorton’s Seafood, GSA said in a release.
“I’m honored to engage more deeply with our members, stakeholders, and the entire GSA team to build trust in seafood, and I look forward to supporting the continued growth of responsible seafood practices globally,” Kocsis said. “In addition to recognizing and supporting our certified facilities for their commitment to best practices and continuous improvement, I’m excited to work more broadly across GSA to maximize our impact through technology, education, advocacy, and third-party assurances. We have an incredible team at GSA, and I’m grateful to work alongside them in support of our mission.”
