Former Clearwater Seafoods exec named Regal Springs North America EVP

Vertically-integrated tilapia producer Regal Springs Group has appointed Greg Morency as its new executive vice president for Regal Springs North America, the company announced on 1 August.

Morency comes to the role most recently from Clearwater Seafoods, where he served as the supplier’s president of global markets, gaining an extensive background in the face-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. During his time with Clearwater, Morency spent close to five years working out of Halifax, Canada before relocating in 2016 to the company’s Washington, D.C. offices.

The move from Clearwater, which is the largest vertically-integrated North American harvester of wild shellfish, to Regal Springs, regarded as the largest vertically-integrated premium tilapia producer in the world, seemed to be a natural progression for Morency, Regal Springs explained in a press release.

“I am delighted to announce that Greg Morency will take up this important leadership role and continue our Regal Springs North America growth story. He comes with very strong seafood commercial experience and will progress the expansion of our Regal Springs Naturally Better Tilapia range whilst maintaining our famous Regal Springs values,” said Achim Eichenlaub, Regal Springs Group’s departing CEO.

Morency will take over for Dennis Roberts, who is leaving Regal Springs to realize a longtime ambition of starting his own company.

“I have really enjoyed my time with Regal Springs and am very proud of the Regal Springs North America team and our accomplishments over the past 18 months. I am looking forward to working with Greg to ensure a smooth transition and am confident that he will be able to build on the progress we have made,” Roberts said of his departure.

“We wish Dennis the very best in his entrepreneurial next steps. He has made a very big contribution to the turnaround of Regal Springs North America and in shaping the new team in Miramar. We are sure that Greg will continue to build on this,” Eichenlaub added.

In addition to his work with Clearwater, Morency has also held sales and marketing roles with Campbells Soup Company, Coca-Cola USA, and Unilever North America for Lipton & Wishbone.

The Regal Springs Group raises premium tilapia in lakes in Indonesia, Honduras, and Mexico. Last month, the company announced that Eichenlaub, its current CEO based out of Singapore, would be leaving his post by the end of 2019 to return to his home country of Germany.

“After 18 years living abroad, I have decided to return to Germany,” Eichenlaub said of his decision in July.

Singapore-based executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles has been hired by Regal Springs “to find a strong candidate for the exciting opportunity to lead Regal Springs Group’s next phase of growth,” the company confirmed.
