The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an advisory on 23 February, 2023 for restaurants, retailers, and consumers eating raw oysters from Baynes Sound, British Columbia, Canada due to risk of norovirus contamination.
According to teh FDA, there is possibility the oysters were distributed to the U.S. No cases have yet been reported from the oysters.
The FDA advises customers to avoid eating and to dispose of any oysters harvested between 15 January and 17 February from Deep Bay, Baynes Sound 14-8, or subarea 13-16.
Food contaminated with norovirus may look, smell, and taste normal, the FDA said.
The oysters include the harvest area on the packaging., Consumers of the product should contact their healthcare provider, and report symptoms to local health departments.
Restaurants and consumers that purchased shipments of oysters harvested between 16 January and 17 February from Deep Bay, Baynes Sound subarea 14-8 land files #0278744, #0278742, #0278741, #0278740, #1414396, #0319716, #1414456, #1414457, #1400483, #1411206, #1407063, #1408485, #0278739, #0278737, #1403139, #0278734, #1411153 and #1411195 and subarea 13-16 land file #1401845 in British Columbia should be alert, the FDA said.
