All of Regal Springs’ tilapia farms in Honduras have earned the highest distinction bestowed by the Global Aquaculture Alliances’ Best Aquaculture Practices program – the 4-star status.
Regal Springs tilapia farms in Honduras are the world's only tilapia farms to have approval from both the BAP program and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). According to the company, the certifications show that Regal Springs is an environmentally and socially conscious, responsible aquaculture operation “committed to raising all-natural tilapia in a clean, healthy and sustainable manner.”
“This landmark accomplishment should come as no surprise to anyone who is already familiar with the Regal Springs brand. Back in 2012, Regal Springs Tilapia farms in Indonesia became the first in the world to be ASC certified. Our recent BAP 4-Star achievement in Honduras shows that we continuously innovate and lead the premium tilapia industry,” said Soren Dalsager, Regal Springs Tilapia's executive vice president of global sales, in a prepared statement.
A 25-year-old business, Regal Springs raises tilapia in lakes in Mexico, Honduras and Indonesia, in locations selected for their ecological profile and water quality. The company grows fish in oversized nets to simulate a more wild existence, and does not use chemicals, growth hormones, antibiotics or carbon monoxide.
