San Francisco, California, U.S.A-based Current Foods has launched its first retail plant-based seafood analog product Expo East.
The product, dubbed Current Salmon, is made with peas, algae, potato, and bamboo and is made to imitate sliced smoked salmon. Retailers of the product will include Showfields, Fairway Market, and Gourmet Garage located in New York City.
“Consumers enjoy our Current Tuna so much that we wanted to give them additional seafood options to choose from,” Current Foods Co-founder and CEO Jacek Prus said. “Salmon was the next obvious choice as one of the most popular fish types in the world."
The goal of the new product, Prus said, was to get as close to the real thing as possible.
"We have worked hard to achieve the same taste and mouthfeel of the traditional fish, as we don't want consumers to make any compromise in enjoyment," Prus said. "At the same time, our smoked salmon is a far more sustainable way to consume seafood without dropping a single anchor into any of our heavily compromised oceans. One bite, and we are confident that retailers will have salmon-loving customers for life!”
Current Foods also exhibited at the Plant Based World Expo in September where it brought its plant-based analog sushi tuna for sampling.
