Luebeck, Germany-based food processing equipment manufacturer BAADER has acquired a majority stake in Dublin, Ireland-based Emydex Technology, a software developer for the food processing sector.
Emydex was founded in 2004, and produces manufacturing execution system software for food processing equipment. Its processing systems, according to a release from BAADER, are integrated into processing facilities in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa.
"This significant step promises to enhance our portfolio offerings. As a crucial strategic pillar for the BAADER Group, digitalization will be significantly strengthened through this acquisition, promising increased value for our customers in the future,” BAADER Global SE CEO Petra Baader said. “The impressive track record of Emydex and its reputation within the food industry make it an ideal fit for BAADER.”
With the acquisition, BAADER said that it will integrate Emydex’s digitalization division across all of its food processing sectors. For Emydex, its international expansion plans will get a boost from the market presence of BAADER.
“As a result, both companies will be strongly positioned to offer expanded and complementary product offerings to their customers,” BAADER said in a release.
The exact terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Following the acquisition, Emydex CEO David McMahon and Emydex CTO James Grennan will continue as shareholders and retain their roles with the company.
McMahon said that the acquisition is a way for the company to fund and execute the next stage of its growth trajectory.
“BAADER, with its similar culture and ethos, as well as the access it provides to new markets, was the ideal partner to help bring Emydex on the next stage of its journey,” he said. “We’re very excited to work with the BAADER team to realize our collective plans for growth and innovation over the coming years.”
BAADER said that existing software solutions for the fish industry will still be a core part of its product portfolio, but with the acquisition those solutions will be “empowered” to provide a more comprehensive digital solution for customers – including new technologies like AI solutions.
"One plus one is more than two: The global network and existing customer relationships maintained by BAADER significantly expand the market potential for both Emydex and BAADER,” BAADER CEO of Digitalization Norbert Engberg said. “Our enhanced global presence will further solidify this position."
