Mediterranean fish-farming group Avramar has introduced a new own-brand of fresh sea bass, sea bream, and pagrus to selected Galaxias and My Market stores in Greece.
The new product comes with the ready-to-cook fish presented in protective atmosphere packaging paired with a new recyclable tray. According to Avramar, the new packaging optimally maintains the freshness, nutrients, and taste of its fish, while also preventing leaks during transportation and storage.
The offering is also available in private-label packaging through large retail chains.
The company said the fish are farmed responsibly, harvested daily, and carefully processed in state-of-the-art fully certified processing plants. The product is then packed in automated packaging plants under strict hygiene standards so that they reach retail stores in perfect condition.
“Avramar sea bream, sea bass, and pagrus major have been awarded for their superb taste by distinguished international chefs in ‘blind’ taste tests organized by international organizations, such as the International Taste Institute, based in Brussels,” it said.
The group was formed in 2020 following the merger of Nireus, Selonda, Andromeda, and fish-feed company Perseus. It provides its four Mediterranean farmed species – sea bass, sea bream, corvina, and pagrus – to some 30 different countries.
Avramar operates 12 hatcheries, more than 70 sea-farm sites, three feed plants, and a number of packaging and processing units. Its farms are in the Aegean and Ionian Seas in Greece, Spain, and the Canary Islands.
In July 2021, it launched a new 144-hectare marine farm in the El Campello, Alicante, Spain. The farm will eventually produce 5,000 metric tons (MT) of Mediterranean fish annually, including its corvina rex, which is the group’s flagship species in Spain.
The complex will comprise 40 cages, each with a 32-meter diameter. Ten will be installed in a second phase, scheduled for next year. Its first fish from the new farm are expected to be market-ready in October 2022.
