Farming and aquaculture standard provider GLOBALG.A.P. is gathering the aquaculture and farming industry in Warsaw, Poland, this fall for the GLOBALG.A.P. SUMMIT, where stakeholders can exchange ideas on the future of certification.
Consumers increasingly want to know where their food comes from and how it was produced. Voluntary certification standards such as those put forth by GLOBALG.A.P. can help producers assuage any concerns and communicate farmers’ efforts from farm to fork. The GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) standard for aquaculture promotes environmental and social responsibility, food safety, and animal welfare, to ensure the aquaculture sector grows in a responsible manner even as productivity increases.
"This event serves as a hub for bringing together producers, suppliers, buyers, and certifiers," GLOBALG.A.P. c/o FoodPLUS GmbH Managing Director Elmé Coetzer-Boersma said. "It is a vibrant gathering where we can explore the latest innovative solutions available in the market. And it is a unique opportunity to address aquaculture sector challenges with renewed insight and focus."
This year’s SUMMIT coincides with the 20-year anniversary of the release of GLOBALG.A.P.’s first aquaculture standard in 2004, which at the time was focused solely on salmon farming. The brand has greatly expanded its aquaculture offerings to over 25 countries since then, and its latest standard is applicable to over 35 species of finfish, crustaceans, mollusks, and seaweed/macroalgae.
The bi-annual gathering provides a platform for stakeholders to come together and discuss how aquaculture standards can be expanded globally to offer products from certified productions processes to consumers. Topics of discussion at the gathering include sustainability challenges, communication to consumers, the future of auditing, the value of certification, and how to manage changing supply chain legislation.
The SUMMIT stands out from other industry events in its ability to offer standards and solutions that can be applied to multiple farming sectors. Discussions will also include input from agriculture and floriculture representatives, allowing lessons learned from one industry to be shared widely across GLOBALG.A.P.’s network. Attendees will hear firsthand from globally recognized experts on crucial emerging issues, labeling, and legislation.
Aquaculture companies will be able to take away insights from any of the sessions, although there will also be two break-out sessions dedicated entirely to aquaculture.
The GLOBALG.A.P. SUMMIT will take place from 10-12 September in Warsaw. Tickets and the full agenda, including speakers, can be found on the official event website.
"The GLOBALG.A.P. SUMMIT in Warsaw promises to be a unique and insightful event, bringing together industry leaders and experts to discuss crucial emerging issues and share valuable insights across farming sectors,” Coetzer-Boersma said. “We look forward to seeing everyone there and engaging in discussions that will drive innovation and progress in agriculture and aquaculture."
