As part of an overall campaign to offer budget-friendly foods this holiday season, Aldi U.S. is touting several new and existing fresh, frozen, and shelf-stable seafood items.
Batavia, Illinois, U.S.A.-based Aldi U.S. said it is bringing in 350 festive food offerings including over 70 new items with the majority priced under USD 10.00 (EUR 9.41). It is expanding its meat and seafood offerings this season with a variety of new products, like pork sirloin roast and stuffed salmon, “so every holiday table spread can feature the highest quality entrée at an affordable price,” the operator of nearly 2,400 stores said.
"The holidays should be spent with friends and family, not scouring grocery shelves for better prices,” Aldi U.S. Vice President of National Buying Joan Kavanaugh said. “Aldi is the destination for holiday entertaining – shoppers can relax this season knowing our stores are serving up a wide selection of premium products, always at low prices.”
The special holiday seafood offerings include Specially Selected fresh Stuffed Atlantic Salmon, which will be available starting 8 November; Specially Selected Cold Smoked Salmon Gravlax, which will be available beginning 6 December; Specially Selected Cold Smoked Salmon, available from 13 December; and Specially Selected Cold Smoked Salmon Trio, which is available starting 20 December, a spokesperson told SeafoodSource.
Several holiday seafood items are already available in stores, including Fremont Fish Market Seafood Mix, Fremont Fish Market Shrimp Rings, Specially Selected Black Tiger Shrimp, Fremont Fish Market Argentine Red Shrimp, Fremont Fish Market Medium Raw Peeled Shrimp, Fremont Fish Market Tempura Shrimp, Fremont Fish Market Bay Scallops, and Specially Selected Snow Crab Legs.
Aldi offers a variety canned and tinned fish year-round, the spokesperson said. Products include Northern Cash Solid White Albacore Tuna, which is Marine Stewardship Council- and Dolphin Safe-certified; Northern Catch Smoked Oysters, and Northern Catch Sardines.
Aldi is offering the seafood specials because it wants shoppers to have access to the foods they want at affordable prices, “no matter their dietary needs, lifestyle or preferences,” the spokesperson said.
“It all starts with our business model. As a leader in private label, Aldi has a vision to provide great products at the lowest possible prices while making a positive impact on people and the environment,” the spokesperson said.
Because the company’s focus is on offering a better selection, not a bigger one, Aldi curates products that meet high quality and sourcing standards, the spokesperson said.
Aldi is rapidly expanding in the U.S., particularly with its acquisition of 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores from Southeastern Grocers in August 2023.
