U.S. grocery chains including Aldi, Kroger, and Hannaford are promoting their seafood options and adding items to their shelves as the summer season begins.

Batavia, Illinois, U.S.A.-based Aldi is offering shoppers who purchase fresh meat or seafood on digital food-ordering company DoorDash a chance to win the opportunity for the food they ordered to be “expertly prepared by a local grillmaster,” the retailer said.

Aldi plans to provide hundreds of shoppers with a USD 250 (EUR 234) credit toward a private chef service to be used at a future date.

“Shoppers can use the credit to coordinate a grillmaster experience in their own backyard,” Aldi said.

Aldi, which operates around 2,200 stores across the U.S., is using the opportunity to promote its meat and seafood products, such as its recently added wild-caught Alaskan sockeye salmon and new flavors of its Air Fryer Salmon: Hickory Bourbon BBQ and Honey Mustard.

“At Aldi, we have everything shoppers need for their next backyard barbecue, including a top-tier selection of meat and seafood,” Aldi Vice President of National Buying Scott Patton said. "By giving our shoppers access to expert grillmasters, we're highlighting our offerings to show that our premium assortment – from USDA Choice Steak to Cedar Plank Salmon – delivers on quality.”

Scarborough, Maine, U.S.A.-based Hannaford Supermarkets recently introduced a lobster roll offering. Available in the retailer’s deli departments, the lobster rolls are prepared in-store daily with 5 ounces of North Atlantic lobster, Hannaford said. Each lobster roll is available for USD 9.99 (EUR 9.34) through Labor Day on 2 September.

“As a grocery retailer with deep roots in Maine, we’re thrilled to offer our customers the opportunity to enjoy a classic New England staple at such an incredible value,” Hannaford Chef Dorene Mills said. “Our delicious grab-and-go lobster rolls are freshly prepared in our stores each day, making them a convenient addition to any summer meal, picnic, or celebration.”

Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A.-based Kroger, which operates more than 2,700 stores across the country, recently promoted its sushi offerings, reminding consumers through a new campaign that the chain has sold sushi since 1991 and has become the largest sushi retailer in America. It offers sushi rolls, rice bowls, sashimi, and related items at more than 1,800 stores, with the company saying its customers purchase more than 1 million rolls of fresh sushi weekly.

“Boasting something for every palate, Kroger offers cooked and sashimi sushi rolls, party platters, dumplings, bao buns, poke bowls, salads, and Asian rice bowls,” Kroger said.
